The 2015 edition of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the most popular social and racing event in Australia is scheduled on Tuesday 3rd November at 3 pm. The race that ‘stops a nation’, runs over 3,200 meters at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.

This year event will be a tribute to Australia’s most prominent trainer Bart Cummings, the “king” of the Melbourne Cup who passed away on August 30 at the of 87. He ran a total of 89 horses in the race and came away with a record 12 victories.

On the field, there looks to be a great mix of veteran horses and the youngsters taking a first shot at glory. Horses from Australia will be joined by horses from countries such as Ireland, England, France, Germany and perhaps Asia.

The 10-year old Precedence, a horse who was trained by Cummings until his passing and who is now in the hands of his grandson James Cummings will be representing the veterans of racing.

The official flower for Emirates Melbourne Cup Day is the yellow rose and can be purchased from flower sellers near the entrances, upon arrival to Flemington.
